Object Tracking Based on Satellite Videos: A Literature Review

Video satellites have recently become an attractive method of Earth observation, providing consecutive images the Earth’s surface for continuous monitoring specific events. The development on-board optical and communication systems has enabled various applications satellite image sequences. However, video-based target tracking is a challenging research topic in remote sensing due to its relatively low spatial temporal resolution. Thus, this survey systematically investigates current approaches benchmark datasets, focusing on five typical applications: traffic tracking, ship typhoon fire ice motion tracking. essential aspects each are summarized, such as architecture, fundamental characteristics, primary motivations, contributions. Furthermore, popular visual benchmarks their respective properties discussed. Finally, revised multi-level dataset based WPAFB videos generated quantitatively evaluated future area. In addition, 54.3% tracklets with lower Difficulty Score (DS) selected renamed Easy group, while 27.2% 18.5% grouped into Medium-DS group Hard-DS respectively.
